Heart disease – Australia’s biggest killer

Heart disease continues to be Australia’s biggest killer, with over 55, 000 people suffering a heart attack each year. Alarmingly, over a quarter of these people will have a second heart attack within the following 12 months. A second heart attack increases the risk of dying. Experts are calling for a national registry to be established that will support better follow up of the patient after a heart attack, including collection of important data and connection with primary care.
